I can see it in your eyes

Each 8" by 8" canvass board will show a pair of eyes of friends, relatives, activists, writers, artists, business executives, sports-persons and political figures who have agreed to right-of-first-refusal purchase their own eyes for a minimum fee donated directly to charity.

The finished drawings will be displayed on this page with a faded image and the name of the subject. On the day of the exhibition opening, all drawings will be shown in full, after the first hour of the exhibition in Winnipeg, Canada.

When my family and I arrived in Canada years ago, for me, it was love at first sight. The variety and range of colours of eyes was insightful. Okay, I'll cut out the puns.

On a serious note, I could not believe the variations in colours of eyes--blueish, greenish, pinkish, reddish...wow! Where I came from, it was deep brown, and deep brown and... You get it. There were not too many variations in colour. Even though I was always fascinated with eyes, my interest really came alive when we arrived in Canada. It was as if I had found a calling and I could never draw enough. Friends, teachers and classmates all became subjects of study. I even took photos of their children's eyes and did not stop drawing for a couple of years.

Fast forward to the year I had my inglorious soccer accident, when I lost the use of my right eye for over a year. Actually, it was worse than that. It was a miracle of science and prayers that restored function to that eye. It was also a journey to understand the importance of sight and seeing. When it was all over, I could see why these drawings must give sight to others.
